Glædelig jul og godt nytår.

A few pictures from our Christmas party, Dec. 20th - and a token of our friendship with the students and staff at George C. Marshall High School in Washington D.C.

We are playing the well-known "present-game" in which you are allowed to steal someone's present, if you throw a 6 on a dice.

Have a great vacation everyone!

What a great trip!

The class of 1.b visited George C. Marshall High School in Falls Church, Virginia, from March 9 to March 16, 2013.

We had a wonderful stay and thank everyone for making this visit possible.
We were all overwhelmed by the warm welcome we received and we look very much forward to the return visit in Copenhagen next September.

Here are a few notes as to some of the things we learned...

Nørre Gymnasium is a Danish upper secondary school (Gymnasium).
The program taught here takes 3 years and aims at giving students a general education and study competence in the humanities, natural science and social science.

The students are organized in classes of about 30 students, each class with in a specific study focus. The students in class 1b thus focus on languages (German / French, English, some have Spanish), social science, media studies or visual arts.

Presentations of Nørre Gymnasium made by the students in class 1b on their 2nd day here.

WE ARE CLASS 1B:

My name is Aia Minuhina. I’m 17 years old and I live in Husum, Copenhagen, Denmark, in an apartment with my mom, brother and sister.
I go to school at Nørre Gymnasium, where I’ve been going for about six months. I think it’s hard to attend the gymnasium, because we’ve got much homework, but I like the school and my class anyway.
When I’m not at school, I work at a supermarket called Netto, and I like it very much, because I think it’s fun working and talking with a lot of different people every time I’m at work.
Besides working, I like hanging out with my friends, which is something I do a lot, when I’m not at school. Besides that, I like to just be at home with my family, eating, watching TV and relaxing. I love food a lot, and I can eat very much almost all the time. I don’t eat candy, cake and stuff like that, but besides that all food is welcome in my mouth J (I’m not fat)
If I should describe myself with three words, I think it would be: (Almost) always happy, sweet and helpful. Or…. Actually I don’t know if that’s how I want to describe myself, but that’s what my friends are telling me, so I guess that’s right J

Hi, I’m Amalie J. and I’m 16 years old.
I was born and raised in Brønshøj, which is in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.  I live in a house with my mother, father and younger sister. Beside that I have three older sisters. One of them is from my father’s first marriage and the other two are from my mother’s. They all live on their own, also in Copenhagen.

I don’t have any animals because I’m allergic to animals with fur, but I’ve always wanted a dog.
In my free time I take dance lessons. I’ve always loved dancing and I’ve learned different kinds of dance styles through the years in many different places. I also like to just chill with all the friends I’ve gotten after I started on Nørre, which I’m extremely happy for doing.
I’m not a vegetarian and I don’t smoke.

I normally spend my days on school, homework, friends and family. I bike to school every day and it takes me about 5-10 minutes.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all J

Hi, my name is Amalie Petterson, I’m 17 years old and I was born on the 22nd of July.
I live in a small town called Bagsværd, together with my mom, dad and brother. I’m in the first year of high school (Nørre Gymnasium) now, and I really enjoy spending time with my classmates!

Before I went to high school I went to primary school, one called Egegaard. Afterwards I went to a kind of school, that you might not have, that in Danish is called "efterskole," which means ‘after school’. It’s a school mainly focusing on social stuff, and it helps you to find a way that leads you into adulthood. I only went there for one year, some students take two, but the mainly point is that you live at the school, without your parents. Therefore you have to be responsible, and learn a lot from the conflicts that sometimes occur.

One of my biggest passions is music; in my spare time I play the guitar a bit and listen to a lot of different music. My favorite bands are at the moment WhoMadeWho and Ulige Numre (which means Odd Numbers). I love to go to concerts, and I have been to 11 with my previous favorite band Dúné. Unfortunately I have only been to few concerts with Ulige Numre, and only two with WhoMadeWho.
Especially I like music from the 80’s, one of my big idols is David Bowie, and I really enjoy his music. But I mostly listen to Danish or Swedish music.
Another passion I have is food and desserts. Unfortunately I’m not good at cooking, but I like experimenting with different dishes and desserts. Sometimes I go out for dinner with my friends, and then we often eat sushi. I really love sushi, it’s my favorite food, but sadly it’s so expensive. L Furthermore, I enjoy chilling on cozy cafés, with a cup of coffee or (David Rio J) chai tea.

A thing that you might want to know about me is that I’m really slow. My friends call me a snail. ;)
And I’m not good at short baths. ;)
Sadly I’m in bad shape because I don’t usually exercise, but I ride my bike to school every morning, but it’s only 4 km. Furthermore, I’m a non-smoker, of a non-smoking family.

I’m looking forward to meeting you.
Sincerely, Amalie J

My name is Celine and I’m 17 years old.
I live in Denmark, in a town called Gladsaxe with my mom and my cat. My father lives in another town called Vallensbæk with my stepmom and my little brother, he’s 10 years old. I go to Nørre High School in class 1.b, and I’m very excited about it.
I do not have any special interests. I love to be with my friends and go to a café sometimes.
I actually also like to sing, but it's only something I do at home in front of the mirror:-D
A normal day for me would probably proceed like this:
I get up every morning at 5.30 AM and then I’ll take a shower and put some makeup on, and do my hair. And then I’ll go to school. I rarely eat breakfast. When I get home, I’ll probably take a nap or something – and then I’ll finish my homework. Then I’ll have dinner with my mom, and every other day I’ll go out for a run, so I can work out.

On weekends I go to parties at my high school and spend time with my friends and have a lot of fun.
But I also love to relax and lie on the couch and watch a movie, etc.
Three things I like: Fun, to meet new people and parties (and shopping!) ;-)
Three things I like less: Smoking, butter and onions.
I am looking forward to meeting you
Yours sincerely,
Celine

Hello J
My name is Diamando Kjaersgaard, and I’m a 17-year-old girl.
I live in Gladsaxe, which is a small city about 10 kilometers from Copenhagen, the capital in Denmark. I live in a little, but nice and cosy basement with my own little kitchen and bathroom. I live there alone and rent it from a family, who lives in the house above.

The reason for that is, that I’ve always lived at a little island called Samsoe far away from Copenhagen or any other big cities. It’s such a little island that you can’t even take your education there except for primary school. In Denmark primary school is from when you’re 6-16 years old. Therefore I had to move away from my family, so I could study. But I like living alone and take care of myself, even though it’s not very often that young people in Denmark move away from home, before they’re about 20 years old.
Last year I went to something called “efterskole.” It’s a Danish concept, very similar to boarding schools. You go there for only one year, and it’s usually completely voluntary. Mostly people choose to go there to get a lot of new friends and experiences. I played a lot of sports, but mostly volleyball. I really love being active and have also played badminton and soccer, when I was younger.
My parents are divorced, and it’s my mother who lives at the island. My father luckily lives in Copenhagen about one hour away from me. He lives with his wife, Anna. My father is named Chris and my mother is named Ida. My mother lives with her husband, Morten, and my three little sisters. Alexia (15), Amalie (9) and Olivia (7).
As I mentioned before, I do like to be active and do a lot of sports. I play volleyball every Monday and Thursday and rest of the week I go to the gym to work out. Besides from that I spend a lot of my spare time with my friends or my boyfriend. I’ve been with him for almost three years, so it’s pretty serious. On weekends I like to party or to visit friends, who live far away from me.
In school I like subjects such as English, French, Danish, media and social studies. I’m a non-smoker and I’m not a vegetarian, but I don’t eat pork.
I’m very excited to meet you and I’m looking forward to it. At the picture you can see my friend, Aia, and myself. I’m the one on the right-hand side.
Greetings from Diamando.

Hi!
My name is Ditte, but you can call me Christine, though, it's my middle name and a lot easier to pronounce! I live in Søborg, 30 minutes away from Nørre G. I'm 16 years old.
I have an older brother, he's called Alexander and he's 21. My parents are called Annelise and Christian. We live in a red house, and we have a bunny named Charlie, he's really cute!

I usually spend my days in school, doing homework, being with my friends and family, and I also spend a lot of time on social medias like YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit and such. I'm actually really into YouTube, although I don't post videos myself. I like youtubers such as dicasp, FoodForLouis and Crabstickz. I also really like Doctor Who!
I love music, and my favourite bands are Arctic Moneys, an Indie-rock band from Sheffield, Incubus (I think they're American!) and The Beatles. I also like other musicians such as Ed Sheeran and Olly Murs.
I enjoy shopping, but I guess most teenage girls do.. Right?
I'm quite creative, and I draw a lot. Here is one of my most recent drawings:

I am a pescotarian, it's almost the same as a vegetarian, the only difference is that pescotarians eat fish. My favourite foods are sushi, falafel and hummus, yum!
I'm a student at Nørre G and in a few years I’d love to attend Bristol University and study English Language.
I'm really looking forward to see you! :)

Kind Regards
Ditte/Christine

Hello, my name is Ebbe Poulsgaard Nielsen (16).
I come from Denmark, or more precisely the capital - Copenhagen. I am 16 years old, born on the 15th of August. I live together with my mother and my brother.

My dad died when I was 5 years old. My mother works as a patent coordinator, but it’s just a fancy word for being an assistant in her line of work. My brother is one and a half years older than me (17 years old (soon to be 18)) and he’s attending the second year in high school at the moment. I am attending the first year at Nørre Gymnasium. I study languages/communication and media.

In my spare time I like to be active and workout. Sometimes I jog and I was doing it regularly up until a year ago, where I got an injury in my knees, so now it’s just limited: never the less, I love doing it.

Besides that, I also love football, hoping for the Packers to win the Super Bowl. I have been to London once for about a week, and I have been to the USA for about two weeks. My vocabulary is one of my strong sides, as far as I believe, but I get a little nervous when I have to speak English.

I also like playing videogames such as Halo, Call of Duty, Diablo, hanging with my friends. Some of my favorite movies are the Batman trilogy and Forrest Gump. And I love travelling.

A regular day in my life would start with a shower, my breakfast and then I’m off to school. When I come home, I would head down to the gym and work out. When I come home I would then eat (one of my many meals (I eat a lot)) and relax. Then I would probably start to make my homework, and eat again. Finishing the day off around 10:30-11 pm.

__________________________________________________________________________________

My name is Emma Kopenhagen. I’m 16 years old.
In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends, party, shop, go to the gym and spend time with my family. I also have a job, in a store called Foetex. I have an older sister, she’s about to turn 18, and I also have a younger brother, who is 8, but no pets.

I live in a town called Husum, just outside Copenhagen, with my mom and sister. My parents are divorced, and my dad, his girlfriend and my little brother are about to move into a house in Glostrup.

In my family, we’re pretty close. And even though my mother’s two sisters and parents live in Jylland (which is like 3 hours from where I live) we see them as much as we can. My father’s sister, brother and parents don’t live that far away, so my sister and I visit them as often as possible.

Last year I went to something called “efterskole” or boarding school in Kerteminde. And that was definitely the best year of my life… so far. I don’t know if you know what a boarding school is, but it’s a school where you live for a year, or 10 months, but you can go home on the weekends. You get a room, and a roommate or two. It’s a great experience, because you learn to get more independent and to be away from your parents for a long time and you’re learning a lot about yourself as well.

My favorite artist is Eminem, but that is not the only type of music I’m listening to. I also really like maroon 5, the script and that type of music. My favorite kind of movies is probably romantic comedies, comedies and scary movies.

I’m an atheist, but I still celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah too, because my father is Jewish and my mother is Christian. I’m a non-smoker and I’m not a vegetarian either.

I’m not very picky when it comes to food, but my favorite food is probably sushi. I don’t have a daily routine; it depends on my laziness in the morning.

I’ve never been to the USA before, but my sister and I went to London once in the fall of 2011, where we stayed for 7 days. It was amazing trying to travel alone, without grown-ups.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Washington D.C. and I’m very open to all new experiences.

Hey , my name’s Gurbhej (17).
You’re probably wondering now, how the hell do you pronounce that weird name? Well, it’s like this: Gur-beige, but it’s still weird, right? Yeah I know -- haha. The reason why I have this name is because I’m Indian (I don’t have an Indian accent when I speak English… haha)

I
’m 17 years old and go to Nørre High School. I live with my mom, dad and my little brother in a town called Søborg. I like to play soccer, and I’m pretty good at it. At least I know how to kick to the ball! I don’t have a spare time job. I would like to have one though, so I’m looking for one.

I don’t smoke, and I don’t eat meat… I’m a vegetarian, but I do eat/drink milk products though. I hope it’s not too inconvenient that I am. The reason why I’m vegetarian is because I grew up being it, so it’s a natural part of me.

I’m a Sikh btw (pronounced, “seek” not “sick” ;) ) I don’t know if it’s necessary to say, but now you know. Sikhism is a north-Indian religion; it’s not a very well-known one. But we are also not so many, so of course it’s not very known.

I’m an open-minded person. I like to talk with people. At first I may seem a bit shy, but I quickly get over it.

I like to listen to music - I listen to different kinds of music but mostly rock and indie though.

I also like to play games - but I’m not a gamer, I just play FIFA on the ps3.

Well, I don’t have more to say, I think…

I’m looking very much forward to staying with you and I think it’s gonna be great!

My name is Helena and I’m 16 years old.

I live in Vanløse, about fifteen minutes away from my school, Nørre G. My mom is from Sweden and therefore I’m spending a lot of holidays over there. My parents are divorced, but both of them have remarried. At my mom’s I’m living with four people: Tora (my mom), Steven (her husband) and his daughters, Anna and Astrid. At my Dad’s it’s just my dad Morten and his wife Lone – and our cat Toffifee!

I like to take photos, be creative (paint, draw – even though I’m not very good at it), laugh and hang out with my friends isn’t bad either. And well, I like school too. I’ve started at this school about half a year ago and I really think it’s nice to be here.  I’ve got some amazing friends, from this school and from my former school as well.

This spring I’m going to Vietnam with my mom and her family and I’m so excited! Afterwards my class and I are heading towards the States and Washington D. C. and then we’ll meet all of you guys. I am so excited; it’s going to be so much fun!

__________________________________________________________________________________

My name is Ida Neidhardt. I am 17 years old.
I attend high school and it is my first year in high school. I live in Copenhagen, Denmark.

My parents are divorced, so I live with my mom and my step dad, and then sometimes I visit my dad. I have no siblings so I am all alone J

In my spare time I love hanging out with my friends. They are the best thing I got, besides my family. I also enjoy being with my family.

I exercise in a fitness center. I really enjoy it, and I usually go there with my mom.

Even though I like exercising, I love to eat. I especially love McDonalds and pizza. I usually hate eating vegetables.

Besides that I am also a smoker, so I would like if I could stay with a family where it is ‘allowed’ to go out and smoke

I am an atheist, but I still love to celebrate Christmas with my family.

My favorite artists are Chris Brown and Frank Ocean. I love their music. Generally I love listening to music.

I love being girly with my best friends, and talk about boys and fashion, but besides that I can also be totally relaxed in sneakers and hoodies.

I love to go to parties with my friends and have a lot of fun on a Friday night.

But I can also enjoy a sleepover with my friends, where we just lay around and watch movies.

I love to go shopping. That is one of my favorite things to do. I usually go to the mall, but sometimes I go to “Strøget” which is a very long pedestrian zone filled with stores and restaurants at the Copenhagen city center.

I love to go shopping with my friends and sometimes my mom, although I always have too much month left at the end of the money J

Hello! My name is Ida-marie, I’m 16 years old and I live, as you might already know, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
I have really been looking forward to getting in contact with you and I’m so excited about going to Washington
J

I attend Nørre Gymnasium communication and media class. It’s my first year in the Gymnasium, and I guess the Danish Gymnasium is about the same as an American high school.

In my spare time I go to an art class in central Copenhagen and I like to draw and paint. I also enjoy watching Youtube-videos. I think it is so much fun and I love to learn new things through watching them.

I live with my mother, my father and my brother, who is two years younger than me. We also have two little cats and I’m more of a cat person than a dog person.
I usually try to eat mostly healthy food, but I’m really looking forward to eating new and different food while staying Washington. Even though McDonalds is almost the same around the world I’ve heard that the servings are much bigger in America, so that’s something I’m going to try for sure J I don’t know if this is relevant, but I don’t smoke and I dislike the smell of cigarettes.

I ride my bicycle to school every morning, and some days after school I work part time in a supermarket near my home. Working doesn’t play that big a part in my life, I just think it’s nice to make my own money and I thought it would be nice to save up a lot of money for shopping in Washington. This will be my first time in America and I’m a bit nervous about having to speak English all the time, so please bear with my Danish accent and weird grammar mistakes.
I’m looking forward to meeting you
from Ida-marie

Hello. My name is Jakob Gundelach (16). I come from Denmark, up in the cold Scandinavia. Before I go into further detail about myself, I want to say that I’m already looking forward to this trip. A LOT. I’m sure that no matter who I stay with, my experience will be amazing.
Now, I don’t know what to say about me, since I’m horrible at talking about myself. I can tell you that I am a big fan of videogames. If I have the time, it’s surely something I’ll spend it on. Other than that, I like food. Food is good. I like a lot of music genres, and I’m down for listening to anything, except pop – I really, really dislike pop. I’m 16 years old – turning 17 in April – and live with my parents and my older brother. I live kind of far from Nørre high school, but I do manage to get back and forth at a decent time. At Nørre, I do media studies, because I like making movies and such. I’m more like the “behind the scenes” kind of guy. I don’t think there’s much else that needs saying.
So hit me back, just to chat, truly yours, your biggest fan, this is Stan.
… Jakob, I mean Jakob.

Hello!
My name is Jonas and I am 16 years old.
Soon my class mates and I are going to visit you in Washington.
I have never been to the USA before, so I am really looking forward
to seeing you and your country!
I live in Copenhagen about 8 kilometers from the centre. I live together with my family, which consists of my 7-year-old sister, my parents and our cat. On weekdays I go to a high school called Nørre Gymnasium. I really do like the high school, because there is room for everyone, and I got some great class mates. In my spare time I used to play soccer, but recently I stopped, because I do not have so much time after school. Instead I play the bass-guitar, and once a week I work in a supermarket. The rest of the time I mainly do my homework or hang out with friends. Furthermore, I love to play PlayStation, watch movies, listen to music and cook.
I would describe myself as an outgoing person, and I think it is exciting to meet new people. It is going to be a great challenge to talk English for a whole week, but I hope you will help me improve my vocabulary. No matter what, I am really looking forward to seeing you! J

My name is Jonathan, I’m 17 years old and live in Copenhagen.
In my family we are 6 persons. I have a brother and 2 sisters, and which is quite nice because of the equality. They’re all younger than I am, especially my youngest sister. She is only 3, while the other two are 12 & 14. There are also my dear parents, of course, they live together with us as well.

We don’t have any pets at home. Most of all because the 3 of us suffer from allergies - especially when it comes to pets like dogs and cats. After school and on the weekends I am that kind of person who likes to be outside with friends and have fun in the city.

Actually it is not very often that I spend time on things like Television, computer games or just relaxing at home. Those times are over, and I like to be active. Along with that, I also try to eat healthy food as much as I can. In the mornings before I go to school I like having extra time. I use that to check that I have the right schoolbooks in my bag, along with my homework. It’s also quite nice to have time to shower, eat breakfast etc. without stressing too much.

And when I have finished the school day I will most likely catch up with friends if there is not too much homework. And if not, well - then just enjoy the rest of the day.

My name is Julie Wathne. I am 17 years old. My birthday is on the 3rd of December.
I go to Nørre Gymasium, in the class 1.b. It is really nice that our class is going to visit you in the spring. We are all so happy that we are going to see the United States.
I live with my mom and sister. We live in an apartment in a town called Lyngby.
Lyngby is 9 km away from Nørre G, so it is a bit difficult to get to school.
When I take the bus, it takes 15 minutes, but it can be delayed. That’s why I always go earlier.
I also have a cat called Vicky. Vicky is 3 years old and very sweet. She is gray with white and black stripes.
All my life, I have been dreaming of seeing Washington, and seeing the country, the attractions and I have also dreamed of shopping in the big shops.
I love shopping. In Denmark I often go to Copenhagen, walk around the streets and shop. The best feeling is, when I get new clothes and shoes. I love to try it on and match it with other things.
In my spare time I am together with my friends. We are doing a lot of things together.
I also go to fitness. My fitness center is called Fitness.dk
In Fitness.dk there are a lot of teams and opportunities. I take part in the cycling team, zumba and of course I use the exercise equipment.
My favorite singers are Rihanna, Eminem and Frank Ocean. I love to hear them.
I like almost all food, but not fish. For many years I haven’t eaten fish, but I still eat other kinds of meat. I like pork, beefs, chicken and other things. I love McDonalds. It’s the best.
I am a really happy person, who loves to meet new people. I love to see how others live. I don’t smoke btw.
A normal day for me starts with school, the school often ends at 2 or 4 o´clock. After school I have plans with my friends, make my homework and go to fitness. It’s a normal day for me. On the weekend I go to parties with my friends. We do a lot of crazy and fun things, and it’s always fun to look back at later.

I live in both homes, one week in each place.
In my spare time I work, and play handball, so, besides school, that's how my week is spent.
I have just started at Nørre Gymnasium, but I like it so far.
I have never been to the USA before, but I am looking forward to seeing it, and you.

Best regards,
